Paying for your college education can be one of the most daunting tasks that you would ever tackle in your whole life.  Without the right connections, you could end up with a pile of debts even before you could begin your chosen career.  Student loans aren’t the only answer to a would-be college student.  There are many types of scholarships out there that you could avail.  But what if mainstream scholarships just don’t work for you?  What then?

As if duct tape clothes aren’t strange enough, better brace yourself for more odd scholarships—there are those that are given to vegetarians, skateboarders, great poker players, those who love knitting, and even essay writers.  If you have special abilities or talents, then chances are, you have a unique type of scholarship that’s designed specifically for you.  If you’re good at bowling, poetry or music, you too can be a scholar.  Twins can be granted special scholarships as well, and so can some people who have a specific last name (e.g. having Zolp for a last name would land you a scholarship at the University of Chicago).   If you’re a single mom or dad, there are lots of scholarships that can be granted to you as well.

More often than not, the most unique scholarships are given by the biggest companies on the planet.  Such is the case with Tylenol, U.S. Bank, and many more.  There are also hundreds of universities and colleges that offer scholarships to academic performers.

As you look at all these possible sources of scholarships, it seems that there’s no reason that you can’t land a good deal yourself.  No matter how odd most of them are, they are still legal ways to pay for that hefty tuition so go ahead and prove your uniqueness!
