Unusual Scholarships for the Peculiar Ones

As an incoming college student, wouldn’t it be great to know that you’re now living in a society where scholarships aren’t offered only to those who are good in academics?  Unusual scholarships are now plentiful and you can now get one by simply being unique!  Here are just some of the most peculiar scholarships:

• The Tall Clubs International Scholarship is given to women applicants who are at least 5’10” tall or male students who stand at least 6’2”.

• The obese generation has nothing to worry about—well at least on the aspect of paying for college tuition!  The National Association for Advance Fat Acceptance awards $1000 worth of scholarship for those who are active in fat activism.

• If you’re a candy addict, then The American Association of Candy Technologists or AACT would be willing to provide a $5000 scholarship to any student who’s looking into a career in confectionary businesses.

• The David Letterman Telecommunications Scholarship is given to students at the Ball State University who are able to submit unique videos, audio or written works, or exceptional films.  $10,000 is given to the top winner; $5000 to the second-placer and the third placer bags $3333.

• If you’re interested in fashion design—hold your horses before you get too excited—you could try to join the Duck Brand Duct Tape contest.  High school students could go to their high school prom wearing this brand of duct tape and they could go home with a cash prize.  The winners are chosen for their workmanship, creativity, originality, and also the quantity of duct tape used on their outfits and accessories.

• SPAACSE or the Society of Performers, Artists, Athletes, and Celebrities for Space Exploration, Inc. focus on giving scholarships to students who are inclined to produce space music.  This type of music is defined as a work that is filled with the universe’s beauty and inspiration.

• Scholarships are also handed out to skilled skaters, surfers, and billiards enthusiasts.  The Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarship is worth $5000 and is given to worthy skateboarders (the student should have a GPA of 2.5 to qualify).  The Barry Lefkowitz Scholarship Billiards Tournament award is a $1750 scholarship given to students of the University of Akron who can win a billiards tournament.

This is your chance to prove your detractors wrong when they say that you’re a good-for-nothing individual.  Though you may not be academically-inclined, you can still be a scholar just by being unique.  So go ahead and find yourself some unusual scholarships online.
